We have to get forestry department permission to cut wood on our own campus. The reason is that we are in a forestry area and the government doesn’t want deforestation because it leads to erosion, then silting of the streams and rivers, and so on. A certain percentage of the land has to remain forested. So we got permission, and now construction of one of the buildings (which is wood and stone) is beginning. Meanwhile, construction of another building (which is steel-reinforced concrete and cinderblock) continues. There will also be two buildings (kitchen and cook’s residence, and men’s hostel) of ‘traditional’ construction (which I think means wattle-and-daub.

Piang is from Burma. He grew up in an apostolic church, later was baptized in water and Spirit, decided to study for ministry, so got a job in a restaurant in India to raise funds, then came to SCU. He’s a music fanatic, always singing and playing the keyboard or guitar, and loves God’s Word.

Parmit Dabas‘ mother has a sari boutique, and someone left a New Testament there. She read it daily, then searched for a church, and was led to SCU graduate John Samuel. Her son Parmit led a typical youthful wild life. But on Christmas Day, 2010, they attended their first service at a church, and on Easter Sunday, 2011, were baptized in Jesus name. However, he hadn’t done much to change his life until in 2011 September he attended a Bible seminar. The next month, he received the Holy Spirit. At month’s end, he started study at SCU and received his first Bible.

Herbert Singh is a P.K. (preacher’s kid). He’s baptized in water and Spirit, eager to be a minister of God’s good news, and so came to study at SCU in preparation for that.

Robert after his first year at SCU returned home, attended conferences, helped in constructing a church building, then became local church youth treasurer, also took English classes preparatory to returning to SCU.

Rahul after his first year at SCU got a job at a medical equipment engineering firm in Hyderabad, He also periodically spoke at his local congregation. He’s making a smaller version of our SCU songbook for a children-and-youth service every Sunday night.

Peter Singh, after his second year of Bible college, returned to his pastorate, taught his local assembly, then visited the village of Teesta, where he donated a plot of land for a church and taught the people, leading to three of them later being baptized. After attending and speaking at the annual Head & Heart Ministers’ Meeting, where he baptized seven people, he returned to his pastorate until he went to teach at Scism Christian University-Pokhara (Nepal). He returned to his pastorate, also visiting other locations, including a new church started by Jiten. There, a drunk entered the meeting and tried to disturb, but Peter asked him to sit and listen, promising that afterward, he could say what he liked. Peter preached for an hour, and the drunk repented, came to Christ, was later baptized. Then monsoon blocked the roads for two months, and he stayed at his church. After travel became possible again, he visited various locations, baptized a pastor, was on his way back home when the earthquake caused landslides that blocked all the roads again. After arriving home and discovering damage to his house and church, he later evangelized in SW Nepal, speaking and translating in seven churches, when he again baptized seven people. He returned to Delhi for his last year at SCU, baptized another three people, After commencement, he returned home, and God willing we’ll see him tomorrow and the next two days at the building constructed on the land he provided in Teesta!

Sachin Kumar came from a Hindu family, but a friend kept talking about Jesus Christ. But Sachin got into a fight that landed him in a police station without bail, but his friend gave him a pastor’s cell phone number. Sachin texted the pastor’s phone, asking for prayer. The pastor prayer, Sachin was given bail. When he got out of jail, he thanked the pastor for praying for him, and the pastor witnessed to him about Jesus. Sachin started attending church, gave his life to Jesus Christ. Sachin gave his anger problem to Jesus, was baptized, worships Jesus, and seeks Spirit baptism.

Vinod is a PK (preacher’s kid). He is baptized in water and Spirit, has become assistant treasurer at his church, wants to grow in knowledge of God’s Word, so he came to SCU to achieve that desire.

Jyoti came to SCU because her older brother, who had graduated from SCU, told her to. She had been Hindu, but a severe illness no one could heal except Jesus brought her to Christ. She came to SCU, was baptized by Peter Singh, who then also baptized her parents.

Lucky Mangrati, after her first year at SCU, went home to Tukvar, near Darjeeling. She spoke in youth service and ladies meetings, on prayer (which she had learned at SCU). She was elected youth president of her local assembly, started to lead youth prayer meetings, then came back for her second year at SCU.

Krushna Sahu had finished one year at SCU, then returned home, helped SCU graduate start a new church. He’s assistant pastor of a thriving new congregation.
